Education: General Information for Teachers

These 1879 rules for teachers, among other things, remind the teacher to fill the lamps every day.

Jondaryan Woolshed is part of the Queensland Heritage Trails Network and is an important cultural heritage site in the history of rural Queensland.

The Jondaryan Woolshed experience tells the story of the Woolshed itself, its Processes, its People, and its role in the Jondaryan community and the history of wool in Australia.

A visit to Jondaryan Woolshed will:

  • Enthuse, engage and inform visitors
  • Provide a genuine heritage experience that is atmospheric, unique, interactive and living (real people, real animals, real tasks)
  • Celebrate our shared cultural inheritance for visitors of all ages

Jondaryan Woolshed dates form 1859 and is one of the largest surviving woolsheds in Australia, shearing approximately 200,00 sheep in a single season in 1873. It has a special place in Shearing Folklore with the famous Shearers Strikes of the 1890s and in the history of the union movement. Jondaryan is a working property with a merino sheep and other farm animals.

The Woolshed itself maintains the architectural integrity of the original structure and features many interactive multimedia displays to assist in telling the stories it contains.

The surrounding Village includes an old school house, a blacksmith's workshop, dingo hunter's hut, shop, cheese-making factory and one of Australia's largest collections of agricultural machinery.

Jondaryan Woolshed offers a unique visitor experience enhanced by an extensive range of public programs, tours and demonstrations.
