Daniel McIntyre Jackie Howe Invitational Champion

Daniel McIntyre, 2016 Jackie Howe Invitational Champion. It has a ring to it. And for Daniel, the current champion for the past two years, winning it for a third time in a row would be the sweetest success.

Daniel, who has been shearing for 18 years, is also the current Australian sheep shearing champion and has represented Australia at shearing events all over the world.

“I first started shearing at the local show and thought it looked like fun,” he said. “It seemed like a great way to improve and learn better shearing techniques.”

As a full-time shearing, Daniel said that there’s more to it than meets the eye.

“I reckon it takes the same amount of hand coordination to shear a sheep as it does to be a jet fighter pilot.”

Like many of his fellow competitors at this year’s Jackie Howe Festival, he’s looking forward to the great atmosphere and celebration of the sheep shearing industry that the competition creates.

“It’s great to feel a part of history and learn from everyone in the shed.”
